Schiperkes are a small, thickset, tailless dog with a fox-like pointed face. Their chest is wide, reaching to the elbows. The forehead is slightly rounded and wide. The oval eyes are dark brown, with an alert, questioning expression. The small ears are V-shaped and erect. The nose must be black. The teeth should meet in a scissors or level bite. If you want to show your Schipperke, remove the dewclaws from the front and hind legs.
Feeding: As Schipperkes historically belonged to peasants, they don't require much food and with excessive feeding can put on weight rapidly.
Life Span: over 15 years.
Size: 11-13 inches for males, 10-12 inches for females.
Weight: 7-18 pounds (3-8 kg).
Disqualifications: Drop ears; any color other than black.
Schipperkes - Grooming

Schipperkes can take care of their own grooming, but, to keep the long double coat in top condition, it should be combed and brushed regularly. Bitches shed hard three times a year. Males and spayed bitches shed less. When shedding all undercoat drops within a 10-day period, and it's easier to give the dog a hot bath and force air through the coat several times during that period. After the shedding Schipperkes look naked for about 2-3 months. No clipping, stripping or shaving of Schipperkes' coat is required.
